Historic Rivercene is a
Large Mansion
Built by
The Industrious River Boat Baron
Captain Joseph Kinney.
A native of Pennsylvania, Captain Kinney arrived in
Boonville in 1844. He soon was able to pursue his first love, river boating. His fleet
carried passengers and freight from New Orleans to Montana. A single trip of the Cora No.
2 netted Captain Kinney $50,000, which he used to build and furnish Rivercene for his
wife, Matilde Clark Kinney. The home has imported marble fireplaces, black walnut front
doors and a hand carved mahogany railing for the grand staircase. The State of Missouri
copied the architectural plan for the present Governor's mansion in Jefferson City.
Rivercene remained in the Kinney family until it was purchased in 1992 by Ron and Jody
Lenz. It has been completed restored and awaits your visit.
